Week 34: Starting over

I have lost 40 pounds since the beginning of the year and I am finally ready to be active again. I am going to start with my basic goals again and try to stick with them this time.

This week: walking every day.

Whole 30 #2: Thoughts

Results!

Do you see that? That’s me before (back in 2010), after my first Whole 30 in May, and after this Whole 30 yesterday. Awesome!

Calling this attempt a Whole 30 felt like a misnomer because I wasn’t nearly as strict this time as I was back in May. I cheated every weekend. Since ending it this Tuesday, though, I realize that I really do need the restrictions of a Whole 30 to make decent choices for myself at all. During my Whole 30 it felt like a reasonable way to live full time — I thought maybe I’d be able to follow that kind of 5 days on, 2 days off schedule with no problem — but since Tuesday I’ve noticed that my basic inclination is still to eat pretty terribly. I’m going to need to really buckle down in order to move forward.

I lost 15 pounds this time around, which included a few pounds that I had gained since the end of May. This was the Whole 30 that I found my waist. I shrank out of the majority of my clothing and got them out of my house. Now that I know I can use the Whole 30 as my secret weight loss weapon I feel confident that I will never need them again.

It is amazing how great I feel all the time on the Whole 30. I forget that the way I eat normally causes upset tummies, bad sleep, and severe moodiness. I wish that I could motivate myself to eat better just based on those kinds of results.

Posting my food photos here really helps me stay on track. Thank you for reading and helping to hold me accountable!

If I can’t get myself back on a good eating pattern of my own free will I may start another Whole 30 in mid-September. Watch this space.

Whole 30 #2: Day 30

Yesterday was the last day of this Whole 30!

Breakfast:

Scrambled eggs with summer squash.

Lunch:

Day 30 lunch

 

Chicken & veggie curry with a peach and some almonds. I had an extra big lunch to prepare for my all afternoon fast before an evening church service.

Dinner:

Day 30 dinner

 

Potluck after church. I brought Mel’s chocolate chili and also piled my plate with salad, pulled pork bbq, some Eritrean veggie dishes (minus the awesome bread), and sausage. In the photo above you can see the toddler stealing my strawberries.

Whole 30 #2: Day 29

Breakfast:

My husband made dinner because I was too tired, so we had pan fried chicken with salad and sweet potato fries.

Whole 30 #2: Day 28

Breakfast:

None on Sundays.

Lunch:

Day 28 lunch

 

Chicken fajita taco salad with cheese and sour cream because I was too lazy to tell them to leave it off. Gr. Is this thing over yet?

Dinner:

A very late night bunless chicken burger with a side salad.

 

Whole 30 #2: Day 27

Breakfast:

Pistachios and tea in the press pot while my husband drank his coffee.

Saturday evening was tricky. We had planned to go to a movie but weren’t really committed to it, so we didn’t plan well. I had nothing ready for us to eat for dinner. I ended up grabbing the last slice of pizza on the way out the door to keep me until the movie ended. When I got home (around midnight) I ate some leftover shawarma chicken and roasted veggies.

Whole 30 #2: Day 26

I’m a few days behind again, so here are some catching up posts:

Breakfast:

None, too lazy.

Lunch:

I made some salsa chicken and served it with salad greens and guacamole, but forgot to take a photo until it was almost gone. Oops.

Dinner:

Day 26 dinner

This is where the whole weekend started to go wrong. My husband has been working to replace the bathroom floor and invited a friend over to help. I ordered pizza for them on Friday night and got myself an order of unsauced chicken wings. They were yummy. However, I learned on Friday that I cannot be in a house with pizza. I ended up eating three slices over the course of the evening. They didn’t fit into my Whole 30 or my fast. I have no willpower at all.

Whole 30 #2: Day 25

Breakfast:

This morning I roasted a tray of veggies and topped them with a poached egg. Suddenly everything sounds like it would be better with a poached egg.

Lunch:

Leftover shawarma chicken and squash. I followed this up with some dates and nuts and cocoa. It has been a chocolate kind of week.

Dinner:

Today was my father in law’s birthday so we celebrated with dinner at his house. I had grilled chicken, sauteed squash, sweet potato fries, and a small salad. I also indulged in my kryptonite¬†and a few bites of birthday cake. I’ll be feeling that tomorrow.

Whole 30 #2: Day 24

Breakfast:

Hey look, I ate breakfast yesterday! I took advantage of a few spare minutes before my Wednesday morning thing and reheated some leftover salmon and squash. This is the day I learned that the baby I watch likes salmon and squash. Who knew?

Lunch:

Chicken shawarma salad. I tried a new salad dressing idea using coconut cream but it didn’t work like I’d hoped. I’ll try again another time.

Dinner:

Day 24 dinner

 

Another dinner on my own means another tray from a local mediterranean place. This time it’s the chicken gyro platter from the Gourmet Factory. The best part is that they deliver.

I am getting a little tired of chicken.

One week left!

Breakfast:

None. Can you tell I didn’t prepare well this weekend?

I was on my own for dinner tonight so I decided to spare my clean kitchen and pick up a sampler platter at Neomonde. Tonight I tried (clockwise from upper left) their roasted summer veggies, Lebanese cabbage salad, fattoush, and chicken salad. Everything was delicious.
